Research fellow, assessing the DiscGenics product in a pre-clinical setting within the Tokai University School of Medicine, Isehara. Mainly involved in cell transplantations, imaging modalities, RT-PCR, and histology.

Utrecht

Internship at Orthopaedic research department of the Utrecht Medical Centre, under guidance of A. Krouwels and L. B. Creemers. Here I work in a fulltime setting on optimizing a bioreactor system for culturing nucleus pulposus tissue sections under loaded conditions. Moreover, I take part in other projects that involve cell- and gel culturing. Some practical skills developed from this internship are 3D printing and designing, hydrogels, sterile cell culturing, ELISA, DMMB assay, Pico-green assay, immuno-histochemistry and histology. Moreover, soon I will also explore plasmids, RT-PCR, fluorescent microscopy, LDH assays and transfections.

Utrecht Area, Netherlands

Internship at Cardio- Thorac Surgery department at the Utrecht Medical Centre, under guidance of dr J. Kluin. Here I worked on implementation of bioactivity in in-situ scaffold-mediated heart valve tissue engineering. My main activity was to preform a systematic search on in-situ approaches of bioactive scaffold mediated heart valve tissue engineering as well as explanted sample processing. Practical skills obtained from this internship are systematic publication searches, review writing, histology, immuno-histochemistry, and microtoming.

Growing quickly from a barista to a shift supervisor, I was responsible for supervising my fellow partners in achieving our daily and long-term targets and goals. Features, such as, teamwork, communication, international understanding, managing and responsibility are some of the skills obtained that will be of great use in a next opportunity.

Laboratory Of Molecular Developmental Biology

An exchange internship in the laboratory of professor Kiyokazu Agata, working on neuronal determination by bHLH-genes during planarian regeneration. In short it was my first long-term abroad experience that has not only been a memorable encounter with the Japanese culture but has also allowed me to develop my independence and international understanding. Some practical skills obtained during this internship are gene-data bases searches, gene mapping and scientific writing.
