Fluvius is a strategic cooperation between Eandis and Infrax, the two distribution grid operators in Flanders. Fluvius is responsible for the introduction of smart meters in the Flanders region. I'm working as a representative for infrax within the "meters and datacaptation team".

Whitin this function i'm occupied with several strategic and innovative projects conserning the technical implementation of assets in the distribution grid of Infrax

Infrax is one of the gridoperators in the flamish region of belgium. Infrax is operating and maintaining distribution grids for elektricity, gas, sewerage and cable TV.Within Infrax i'm employed in the knowledge center elektricity at the metering department. We are responsible for the introduction of new (electronic) metering equipment within the company. Next to the meter equipment, we are also taking the lead in defining new IT-systems for Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and maintainance of the systems (from an application point of view)My department and myself are playing a big role in the smart metering project at Infrax. In this project, my collegues and i are defining and testing new smart meters and AMM-systems. My biggest role in this project is the integration of the smart meters with the AMM-system used at infrax. I'm also describing what our AMM-system should be capable off and i'm keeping an eye on errors against the used standards.

ACRO is a research group linked to the KHLim. ACRO has got four spearpoints were they are working in. One of the spearpoints is Embedded Systems & Security (ES&S). This group within ACRO is doing research in the area of cryptographic applications on embedded systems. They are designing, implementing and evaluating cryptografic algoritmes on microcontrollers, FPGA's and other embedded components.After a succesfull masterthesis, i started in this research group. I was responsible for implementing a new cryptographic algoritm called "Pomaranch" on FPGA. After the evaluation of the Pomaranch stream cipher on FPGA, I was responisble for designing and fabrication of a "real" chip containing the algorithm.

Next to my work as researcher at ACRO, i was assigned to give some courses chipdesign to students of the KHLim

In my masteryear i did my masterthesis at COSIC. Beneath you can find the summary of the work. For this thesis i worked together with my fellow student Steven Swinnen."COSIC is a research group of the electrical engineering department of the KULeuven. A part of their research is focused on the design, evaluation and implementation of cryptographic algorithms on electronic platforms. Since the introduction of power attacks on these platforms, many existing algorithms became unsafe. This master thesis aims at an implementation of an algorithm, based on Elliptic Curve Cryptography, to evaluate its security against power attacks. For this purpose an automated power measurement system is developed, during this master thesis.The software of the power measurement system is developed with LabVIEW. This software controls an Agilent oscilloscope and a specialized FPGA board. Afterwards we tested the power measurement system, using test algorithms implemented on the FPGA board. We did various power attacks on the implementation of the elliptic curve algorithm with our power measurement system and statistical calculations.While performing a simple power attack (SPA) on the existing elliptic curve implementation. This brought up a major implementation error. By adapting the implementation, we eliminated the error and the implementation became much safer. In addition, we did a comparative power analysis attack (CPA) on the same implementation. This attack revealed a portion of the secret information."This thesis was nominated for the BARCO price 2010 and the paul donners price 2010
