I have a Bachelor degree in Geography and a Master degree of Science in Water Resources, both from the Universidad Austral de Chile in Valdivia. Since my BSc degree in 2020, I got involved in field measurements on different glaciers in the Southern Andes. Activities include stake measurements, differential GPS, weather station installations, bathymetry surveys, etc. as well as climbing different volcanoes in Chile. My main research interest is understanding the formation, evolution, and dynamics of glacial lakes and their relationship and interaction with the glacier evolution.My research further comprises natural hazards in mountain areas conditioned by glaciers and glacial lakes, estimating geodetic mass balance, glacier-climate interaction, and glacier hydrology. In terms of methodology, I am skilled in remote sensing and geographic information systems for monitoring mountainous regions.Recently, I was granted a bilateral scholarship between the governments of Chile and Germany to pursue a PhD within the institute of Geography at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg. My research project is called “Future glacial lakes in the Southern Andes and associated dangers to downstream communities”. Within this project, I will seek to study the dominant factors for future glacial lake formation in the Southern Andes by combining remote sensing methods and geophysical models.
