Led international marine biodiversity conservation science and technology in Gulf of Mexico. ● Developed annual strategic plans and conducted 10+ projects, promoting understanding and reducing impacts of climate change and other threats by identifying risks and opportunities to conserve species, habitats, and ecosystems. ● Produced and published priorities for ecological restoration of 5 habitat-level conservation targets after DWH oil spill in 2010, collaborating with other partners. ● Directed development of 2 innovative and publicly available online decision support tools, enhancing biodiversity management for governmental agencies and other decision-makers. ● Granted and productively managed multiple competitive scientific, government agency, and private grant funds, advancing conservation science and practice. ● Optimized and streamlined use of geospatial science and technology, solving biodiversity conservation problems across organization’s global reach. Examples:➤ Migratory Species Conservation Project that utilizes a framework for assessing marine biodiversity conservation needs. These needs have been translated into a decision support web mapping tool (https://maps.migratoryblueways.org) that allows for visualization and analysis of animal movements and threats. Worked with a team of scientists and partnering institutions are working to collect new data and improve this analysis.➤ Gulf of Mexico Sea-level Rise Data Platform (http://www.slrportal.org) to provide a series of technical tools and future scenarios from analysis to support the practical understanding of impacts to the environment and to human coastal communities that may result from SLR and related climate hazards, including storm surge, in the Gulf of Mexico region. The scenario-based assessments of natural infrastructure provide regional management products and tools to support enhancing resiliency of Gulf communities.
