Jorge is a Mechanical Engineer by the Lisbon University (Instituto Superior Técnico), and graduated in Thermodynamics. He joined TAP Air Portugal in 1986, starting his aviation career as a repair engineer at the Engine Shop, before becoming CFM56 powerplant specialist and chief engineer.In 1994 he became Engine Shop Production Manager, later assuming other management positions as Engineering & Quality Manager and Commercial Manager for the Engine Business. In 2004 he was appointed Director of Quality for TAP Maintenance & Engineering and later Director of Quality and Safety, a position he held until 2021.For 7 years he chaired the Engineering & Maintenance Subcommittee of AEA (Association of European Airlines) in Brussels and represented AEA in SSCC (Safety Standards and Consultative Committee) and in ECAST (European Commercial Aviation Safety Team) at EASA in Cologne.He was a member of SEMS (Safety, Engineering & Maintenance, Security) working group at A4E (Airlines For Europe) in Brussels and represented A4E at EM.TEC (Engineering and Maintenance, Technical) committee of EASA in Cologne. He also represented TAP at ARSA (Aeronautical Repair Station Association) in Washington DC and FSF (Flight Safety Foundation).Jorge was born in Lisbon. His aviation activity extends well outside TAP Air Portugal. He has been a lecturer in the portuguese Air Force Academy and Lisbon University, teaching Quality and Aeronautical Legislation. He is a ground school instructor at several Flight Schools, teaching Aerodynamics and Flight Performance and he is a regular lecturer at Cranfield University in the U.K.Jorge holds a Private Pilot License.
