Supervisor at CCDC - Chemical Biological Center, supporting the US Army Dept. of Defense.Dr. Jorge Maciel is a molecular immunologist with 20+ years of research experience working in the areas of infectious diseases, immunology, and protein engineering. Dr. Maciel has previously led the Chemical Biological Center (CBC) Biophysical Chemistry Branch affinity reagents team in developing new antibodies against various biological and chemical agents of interest, using his knowledge of biological threat agents and the scientific principles which limit the effectiveness of current biological detectors, samples, and assays to develop new countermeasures. In addition, Dr. Maciel has extensive experience in the evaluation of next-generation sequencing technologies and the use of resulting data sets for statistical identification and characterization of microorganisms in simple or complex sample matrices, and synthetic biology. Dr. Maciel also conducts canine assessments and olfactory research science support for the Defense Department's Military Working Dog Program.Dr. Maciel currently serves as both a Senior Scientist and Personnel Manager of research scientists and support staff at CCDC for Excet, Inc., and has served as a guest lecturer at several university, including Johns Hopkins University, University of Washington and the National Defense University.
