With extensive training and experience in health services research, infecious diseaes and public health, Dr Parada's main focus is patient safety, quality of care and prevention of healthcare associated infections.Dr. Parada is a Professor of Medicine, Hospital Epidemiologist and the Regional Medical Director of the Loyola University Medical System Infection Control Program, and Medical Director of the MRSA Clinic. He is also Research Associate of the Infectious Diseases and Immunology Institute (InDII) at Loyola University and a Senior Research Associate at the Hines VA Center for the Management of Chronic Complex Care.He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the Infectious Diseases Society of America (FIDSA), and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (FSHEA), as well as a former VA Research Career Development Awardee. He joined Hines VA Hospital and Loyola University Chicago in 1999 after completing a Health Services Research Fellowship at Rush University and Cook County Hospital. In 1997 he completed a Masters of Public Health at Harvard & Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Boston University. His residency training in internal medicine was at the State University at Stony Brook, where he was also Chief Medical Resident. He is an active clinician and teacher. The focus of his research is clinical effectiveness, outcomes, and resource utilization in infectious diseases – with a focus on patient safety and infection control and the prevention of healthcare associated infections – including Clostridium difficile and MRSA. His projects have included studies of antimicrobial use, antimicrobial resistance and adverse events. His research efforts have continue focused on Clostridium difficile-associated disease, the prevention of device-related infections, and MRSA infections. He has over 60 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals, and over 300 presentations at national and international scientific meetings and Grand Rounds.
