Jorge is a cultural events curator and producer who is currently the Head of Cultural Programming for the Vancouver Public Library, where he is responsible for exhibitions, performances, and literary events.His work experience in Canada began with campaign & content development for environmental and advocacy organizations, then transitioned to building a digital subscriptions program for an investigative journalism organization, and finally landed in cultural programming for libraries.Fun fact: in 2012, Jorge created a successful social initiative called #bemyamigo with the aim of battling social isolation in Vancouver, which led to numerous invitations to speak at events, and an ongoing interest for how to foster human connections in our cities. In his previous role at the Toronto Public Library, Jorge programmed dozens of literary and arts events, and curated the On Civil Society series, where he hosted discussions on the most pressing issues of our time. In his current role at VPL, Jorge is focused on building relationships with partners, growing an audience, and attracting top writers and performers to host the most exciting, free, public programming for residents of Vancouver.Jorge's approach to programming is centred around anti-racism, decolonization and building a more equitable society that uplifts marginalized voices. He speaks four languages and loves talking to strangers.
