* Designed and rolled out customer segmentation and targeting platform, with AB and multi-armed bandit testing capabilities to Chewy.com. This enabled targeting 60M+ customers based on their preferences on Chewy.com and realizing a 40%-70% lift in revenue per thousand impressions. Applied for a patent for this system in collaboration with Chewy's legal team.* Drove cost reduction measures for segmentation and targeting services, reducing segmentation costs by over 60% by moving data to DynamoDB, and reducing competition service costs by over 50% by refactoring the architecture to reduce I/O expenses.* Designed and built new content platform, which enabled rich capabilities like scheduling, future preview, and content targeting integrated with Chewy's segmentation systems. Allowed users to plan and drive new content 8x faster than with the previous solution.* Drove alignment and acceptance of software development best practices at Chewy, including writing the REST and GraphQL API best practices specification for the company.* Drove the asynchronous messaging strategy for merchandising, onboarding Kafka as a platform and enabling critical data to be made available real-time across the enterprise.

* Led 38 engineers across four teams in the digital enablement space, including architecture, development and operations of Target's marketplace platform, as well as the CMS, site taxonomy and product classification platform for Target.com.* Drove various improvements to Target's marketplace platform, including automated generation of product titles, enabling 2-day shipping, product return chargebacks and automated shipping estimates based on order volume, which contributed to growing yearly revenue to over $200M over 2 years.* Designed and managed development of services to enable curation of reusable datasets as well as allowing for “human-in-the-loop” feedback to improve Target's ability to use machine learning in production. The first model built using this platform aimed to enable $5-7M in additional revenue in 2020.

* Principal architect and technical lead over the Target+ marketplace platform, including all services that connect to outside sellers and integrators. These systems enabled Target to go from zero to over 60k listed products and several million dollars in sales within 6 months.* Architected and implemented the group’s automated item validation and enrichment strategy, including applying machine learning techniques to ensure appropriateness and extract attributes. Target now automatically judges ~85% of incoming items and over 50% of item approvals occur within 2-3 hours.* Responsible for the technology strategy and implementation for all of Guest Experience Management at Target. The team owns content management, item classification, search rule management and other platforms that drive target.com.* Drove performance improvements on our guest-facing content services through code optimization and a Varnish caching tier, reducing 90th percentile times by 90% to around 20ms.* Designed and led development of a semantic classification service called Deep Red that leveraged natural language and item data to enable rich, guest-centric experiences. This was featured during the swim sales season on Target.com, and resulted in a 20% lift in sales.

* Led a team of 15 engineers, and designed and developed a suite of new services to support content management, site taxonomy curation, SEO metadata management and item attribution across Target.com and mobile.* Designed and managed the development of a service-based CMS, which leveraged a Java/Spring 4 stack on top of MongoDB and Cassandra to serve over 100M monthly visitors. The system reduced the time to refresh a piece of content on Target's digital properties from over a day down to a few minutes.* Architected and developed an item attribution system, which made use of Elasticsearch to rapidly filter and tag an assortment of over 4 million items with over 5 thousand categories and tags, and surface the data on the site in minutes.* Implemented and pushed forward infrastructure automation by developing software to programmatically provision production servers on a private OpenStack cloud, and led a team of infrastructure engineers in developing Chef cookbooks that set up required services and deploy applications.* Championed software engineering best practices through proper use of Git flow, a continuous integration pipeline using Jenkins, a high level of automated unit testing, and established a strong culture of code reviews and adherence to development best practices.* Engineered a Kubernetes cluster end-to-end, including automated application container builds and deployments, DNS and service discovery, centralized logging collection with Fluentd and Kibana and centralized metrics collection using Grafana. Also worked with the development team to containerize existing applications using Docker, and migrate them to Kubernetes. This effort reduced our server footprint by 50%.

* Championed and led implementation of a new user experience, as well as a highly-available distributed search system able to index and search over 50 million pieces of content in 20 languages, while serving around 100 million unique users a month. Obtained alignment from various departments to ensure a successful launch, which increased revenue by approximately $9M globally.* Led technical effort to integrate tags and categorization into tripadvisor.com, in order to enable effective search and discovery across the immense content base and increase user engagement.

* Architected the firm’s core technology platform, which enabled users to enter over 3000 recommendations for travel experiences per week, attach structured metadata, and explore these travel ideas based on their interests. Led a team of 3 developers to build the system.* Developed the database schema, analytics engine and web services backend using MySQL, CXF, Java and Apache, and implemented search engine technology that improved query times 20x compared to a database.* Set the business and technology strategy for the firm in collaboration with other members of the management committee.* Created valuation models, capitalization tables and worked with the legal team through several financing rounds.* Wanderfly received several awards for its design and technology, including a nomination for the Webby Awards, Times Inc.’s “10 NYC Startups to Watch”, among others.
