Future Geosynchronous Synthetic Aperture Radar (GEOSAR) missions aim to provide continuous monitoring of continental areas with daily revisit times. Achieving precise orbit determination is crucial for generating high-quality SAR images. A proposed solution is microwave interferometry, whose performance was demonstrated using signals from existing satellites, such as Astra 19.2°E, as illuminators of opportunity. An experimental system was developed, using passive reflectors and buildings to track weak signals, forming baselines of up to 1200 m. Results showed uncertainties of 400 m due to environmental perturbations. An error model was developed in order to estimate and compensate the impact of the most important perturbations, such as the troposhere, the temprature and the absolute phase ambiguity. Finally, the estimated trajectory, combined with the echoes resulting from the scattering of the satellite signal on the surrounding terrain, is used to form SAR images of Barcelona.
