About Jorge O. Moreno
I earned my Ph.D and M.A. in Economics at the University of Chicago, my Master in Economics at El Colegio de Mexico, and my B.A. in Economics at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL). I have professional experience in academics, government, and consulting. I previoulsy worked in the Ministry of Finance for the Mexican Government (SHCP), the Banco de Mexico, the World Bank Group, the National Opinion Research Center (NORC), the University of Chicago, El Colegio de Mexico, and the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM). I also have collaborated in several consulting projects for the private and public sectors and NGOs associated to Organized Civil Society. Since October 2015 I write a biweekly editorial column for El Financiero-Bloomberg newspaper in Monterrey, Mexico.Currently I am Professor in the Faculty of Economics at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) in Monterrey Mexico, Research Associate at Fundacion de Estudios Financieros de Mexico (FUNDEF), and member of the Advisor Group of Evaluations at the National Commission of Competition in Mexico (COFECE). My research interests include the Theory and Practice of Banking and Financial Intermediation, Economics of the Household and the Firm, Human Capital Investment (Education and Health), and Labor Markets and the Informal Sector.
