Jose Hernandez is a seasoned executive with over 30 years’ experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. He has extensive experience in mergers/acquisitions, sale of assets (divestitures), crisis management, reorganizations, regional and country integration, rebranding, strategic planning, leadership, and as regional/global management. Additionally, he has expertise in field operations, distribution, marketing, underwriting and claims. Over the course of his career Mr. Hernandez has held country (Mexico and Japan), regional (Latin America, Far East and Asia Pacific) and global (New York and Bermuda corporate headquarters) roles. He is currently retired after serving 3 years at the Argo Group as the Head of International overseeing insurance and reinsurance operations in Bermuda, London (Syndicate 1200), Europe, Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai and Brazil. Prior, he served as President and CEO of AIG’s Asia Pacific region. Globally, AIG is a leading insurer with over $58bn in revenues in 2015, serving over 90 million customers in 100+ countries. AIG is a leader in property casualty insurance, life insurance, retirement products, mortgage insurance, and other financial services.With more than 15 years’ experience in Asia, Mr. Hernandez had oversight of the region for the past 4 years. AIG is arguably the leading general insurer throughout Asia with growing life insurance operations in major markets. Under Mr. Hernandez’s leadership the region experienced significant growth, including a major acquisition in Japan which solidified the company’s position as the leading foreign-owned insurer in Japan, the world’s 2nd largest insurance market. In addition, AIG is the leading insurer in Singapore while and holds top 5 market positions in Hong Kong, Korea and Australia. Prior to joining AIG, Mr. Hernández held a number of management, marketing and claims positions in the industry. He is a graduate of Bentley College in Waltham, MA and holds a Master’s in Business Administration from The College of Insurance in NY (now St. John’s University School of Risk Management). He is a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
