As Manager of Geotechnical Engineering I bring together a team of geotechnical engineers working on multiple Bechtel offices spread around the world. I'm responsible for staffing Bechtel projects with geotechnical engineers. I also perform technical reviews of work performed for our projects. As a Bechtel Fellow I participate in internal and external technical excellence activities and advocate for engineers pursuing a technical career at Bechtel.

Functional management of the Geotechnical & Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) group. The G&HES group that I currently manage at Bechtel NS&E consists of about 35 professionals practicing in the areas of geotechnical engineering (including myself), geology, hydrogeology, hydraulic engineering, hydrology, earthquake engineering/structure interaction and seismology. We provide professional services in these areas to all Bechtel NS&E nuclear power and goverment projects.

The G&HES group at Bechtel Power consists of about 40 professionals practicing in the areas of geotechnical engineering (including myself), geology, hydrogeology, seismology, hydraulic engineering, hydrology and soil-structure interaction. We provide professional services in these areas to Bechtel Power projects worldwide .

Functional oversight of the Geotechnical & Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) group. The G&HES group at Bechtel M&M included geotechnical and hydraulic engineers, and was augmented as needed by geo-professionals from other Bechtel Global Business Units. The group provided professional services to Bechtel M&M jobs worldwide, and also managed the work of geotechnical consultants providing services to Bechtel M&M. Projects consisted primarily of new copper concentrator, alumina refineries and aluminum smelters.

Senior and subsequently Principal Geotechnical Engineer providing professional services to Bechtel Power's projects in the areas of fossil (gas-fired and coal-fired) and nuclear power. Tasks ranged from development and implementation of subsurface investigations, preparation of calculations and geotechnical reports to field support during construction (earthworks oversight, pile installation monitoring and load testing, ground improvement installation monitoring and testing, etc.). Actively participated in technical excellence activities and made frequent technical presentations and published in conference proceedings.

I served as a senior geotechnical engineer providing consulting services to mostly commercial development and also industrial projects.

I served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at New Mexico State University and then at Duke University before accepting a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at Louisiana Tech University. During this time I taught undergraduate and graduate classes in mechanics, computer programming and geotechnical engineering.

I served as a teaching/graduate assistant while pursuing a PhD degree in civil/geotechnical engineering. I was inducted into Chi Epsilon (Civil Engineering Honor Society), Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society) and Sigma Xi (Research Honor Society).

I served as an assistant geotechnical engineer immediately after my graduation from UFRJ and worked on hydropower projects (earth dams).
