Successfully completed two year astronaut training program that included training in Space Science, Space Shuttle and International Space Station systems, physiological, T-34C turbo prop and T-38 jet flight, water and wilderness survival training. Assigned to the Shuttle Branch in support of Shuttle launch and landing preparations at Kennedy Space Center. Additional duties included capsule communicator (CAPCOM) at Mission Control Center for the ongoing International Space Station missions. Selected and served as flight engineer on STS-128 mission aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. Additional responsibilities included training for and being one of two principal robotic arm operators. The STS-128 science mission also rotated an expedition crewmember, attached the Leonardo Multi-Purpose Logistics Module (MPLM), and transferred over 18,000 pounds of supplies and equipment to the International Space Station and conducted three spacewalks. The 2009 STS-128 mission was accomplished in 217 orbits of the Earth, traveling over 5.7 million miles in 332 hours and 53 minutes and returned to land at Edwards Air Force Base, California.
