Jose has 20+ years of building energy modelling and consultancy experience in buildings, both commercial and domestic. Core activities include building energy performance simulation and thermal comfort analysis, energy modelling to identify cost-effective energy improvements, Net Zero strategies, and software development to enhance energy simulation tool’s potential to embrace actual building behaviour.Additional work includes development of Building certification and benchmarking schemes and tools such as the National Calculation Method for the implementation of the EPBD (Energy Performance of Building Directive), UK Part L 2006-21 Building Regulations, and Green Deal policy. Jose created the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) tool in 2004 on behalf of the UK government, currently the primary policy tool for non-domestic building energy performance assessments.Jose has experience in undertaking and managing a wide range of high quality and value sustainability projects in building energy and efficiency within the public sector. Good understanding of Government needs and policy requirements gained over the delivery of a portfolio of supporting projects for different government departments and quasi-government organisations.Jose worked at BRE for 18 years (2003-2021) where he was Director of the Building Energy Modelling Team and Head of Energy & Climate Change. Prior to joining BRE, Jose was working as a professional engineer and researcher in the Department of Energy Engineering and Mechanics of Fluids at the University of Seville (Spain) where he initiated his PhD on “Energy Engineering”. It was there where he contributed to the development of CALENER, a building energy simulation tool based on DOE2 for both design assistance and certification purposes.I am an enthusiastic leader and hands-on contributor in everything I get involved with a passion for developing new methodologies and products and with an absolute commitment to delivery.Affiliations:European Engineer (Eur Ing)Member - American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)Member - Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)Specialties: Team development, Building modelling, Planning and organisation, Leadership and motivation, Communications, Client management, Software development.
