José Sariego is an international mergers & acquisitions and transactional lawyer and executive with more than 30 years of experience negotiating and closing domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, investments, joint ventures, divestitures and other transactions. Fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese, Jose has negotiated and closed multi-million deals in a dozen countries in three languages.Jose's firsthand experience with the complex inner workings of major companies and the challenges facing high level executives and in-house counsel is one of his unique differentiators. For more than 20 years, he was a member of senior management of three companies, where he served as chief legal and compliance officer as well as secretary to the Board of Directors of two companies.Jose has particular experience in media, entertainment and technology law, having served as General Counsel of HBO Latin America and as head of Business & Legal Affairs for Telemundo Network. Jose has negotiated and closed multi-million dollar licensing, distribution and other deals for broadcast and pay television brands and channels in the United States and throughout Latin America. He has led complex negotiations with some of the largest media companies in Latin America, negotiated and closed multi-year programming deals with major Hollywood studios and independents, and handled development and production deals on numerous scripted and unscripted shows with producers throughout the region. He also has negotiated talent and other agreements involving internationally renowned stars and business executives. He has handled sports programming deals for World Cup soccer, NFL football, and other sports.Jose is a partner in the Corporate Department of Bilzin Sumberg, a Miami full-service law firm. Earlier in his career, Jose was a partner in Kelley Drye & Warren, a 400-lawyer international law firm.In addition, to his in-house roles with HBO Latin America and Telemundo Network, Jose has been the General Counsel of MasTec, Inc., a NYSE-listed international telecommunications contractor. Jose is an Adjunct Professor of Media Law at the University of Miami Law School and was an Adjunct Professor of Media Business Law at Miami International University. He is a frequent lecturer and author on a variety of topics. He was a professional journalist with The Miami Herald prior to becoming a lawyer. He received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan, and his undergraduate degree in journalism and Latin American studies from the University of Florida.
