I was promoted to execute Verizon’s B2B go-to-market video strategy - a “big bet” corporate initiative representing a central element of Verizon’s transformation to a leading technology company.With full profit and loss responsibility, I implement and manage the launch of VDMS products and services. This entails overseeing marketing strategy, financial planning, business development and strategic partnerships, product effectiveness and profitability by customer segment. I ensure all company assets, technology and capabilities are leveraged to achieve the business plan. Results include…- Cultivated and closed multi-hundred million-dollar deal with Redbox Instant, representing a milestone in the Verizon VDMS strategy and catapulting Redbox into the streaming video market.- Signed eight high profile target companies into a charter customer program designed to engage them in the development of the platform.- Drove financial analysis creating a strategic partnership with a leading live event company, and representing a new multimillion-dollar revenue stream.- Designed and introduced simplified pricing model that facilitated client development, negotiations, and speed-to-close of accounts.

With its goal of growing its consumer share, I was assigned to define the strategic roadmap to achieve competitive, market leading advantage in moving the business to the next level. I led initiatives within the media and entertainment industries to create a superior multi-platform video experience while attacking high-growth segments of video distribution. This included addressing customers’ needs and capitalizing on opportunities that position Verizon’s to achieve its long-term financial objectives. Results…- Created framework for Verizon Digital Media Services (VDMS) to generate separate B2B revenue stream and improve margin for digital video distribution.- Led merger and acquisition, and partnership strategy to leverage OTT functionality, enabling the Redbox Instant joint venture, and paving the way for generating B2C revenues above and beyond FiOS territory.

Here I led 50 direct and indirect reports in driving revenue growth and customer retention for key business units throughout the Americas. We identified and designed the technology strategy to strengthen our international footprint, as well as aligned product enhancements and best practices across Verizon International. I designed and co-led the international execution of highly successful customer loyalty/retention strategies. Results…- Secured board approval for a five-year, $1B, $3.3B NPV investment for a wireless technology overlay, representing the biggest capital budget approval in company history.- Reduced YOY post-paid wireless customer turnover 15% and wireless prepaid turnover 10%, generating $3.3M in additional revenues in one year.- Lowered early broadband customer turnover to less than 60 days, or 50%, representing more than $800K in revenue in one year.- Decreased broadband monthly customer turnover levels from 3.6% to 2.3%.- Generated enterprise sales of $48M, $7M ahead of budget.

Through more than 20 direct and indirect reports, I designed a global wireless data product strategy for all Latin American affiliates. This entailed leading the commercial and go-to-market strategy for wireless’s new value added products, as well as negotiating global agreements with wireless data vendors.- Generated more than $200M in incremental new revenue annually.- Built from scratch a suite of wireless products across affiliates including multimedia messaging, ring back tone, Blackberry and short message services.- Designed leadership competencies to facilitate the success of the wireless value added business in local markets throughout the region.- Received Verizon Excellence Award in 2002 and 2004, and Verizon Dominicana Golden Award in 2004.

Along with three high-profile managers and six senior staff consultants, I developed new revenue and profit streams for this telecom company, Venezuela’s largest, with revenues of $3.2B, 16M wireless, 3M wired and 500K broadband subscribers. This included overseeing business planning, industry trends analysis and marketing strategy. I also designed and evaluated new business models and developed business cases to capture incremental market share.- Conceptualized and launched first Latin American wireless voice/data portal, including Info Alerts SMS service, generating $6M the first year.- Introduced revenue share model, saving $13.8M in sales commissions the first year, while increasing top-line sales.- Developed a progressive set of vanguard services and enhanced corporate brand as the leading innovative telecom firm in the country.- Innovated revenue-sharing concept to content providers and vendors, allowing the addition of new value added services using partners’ capital budgets.
