• Provide expertise in speech analysis and spoken language on interviewer/respondent voice properties in telephone survey participation• Co-Director of the En Nuestra Lengua Literacy and Culture Project, a Spanish literacy program for 100 Latino youth and their immigrant parents in southeastern Michigan:• Developed and taught the graduate course “Spoken language in survey methodology” in the Joint Program in Survey Methodology.

• Taught graduate and undergraduate courses in speech science, computational speech analysis, linguistic diversity, and neuroscience for the speech-language pathology program• MSU P.I. for the NSF-funded collaboration “Acoustic Properties, Listener Perceptions and Outcomes of Interactions between Survey Interviewers and Sample Persons”• Supervision of 13 research assistants in the development of a corpus of 1280 telephone survey invitations. The grant enabled 5 conference presentations, 2 graduate theses, 1 peer-reviewed publication, and several papers in progress.

• P.I. of R03 DC05913 grant from the National Institute of Deafness and Communication Disorders, “Measuring context effects in spoken word recognition.”• This grant involved over 15 students, produced 6 conference presentations and publications, and provided partial support for a PhD dissertation which I co-supervised (R. Felty, Context effects on spoken word recognition of English and German by native and nonnative listeners [2007]).

• Taught graduate and undergraduate courses in phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, linguistic field methods, and general linguistics.• Research supervision for over 20 graduate and undergraduate students.
