At the start of 2021 I have taken on the duties of a Product designer.My new duties involve working with the Product Development manager and PD Merchandiser to design and develop new products across multiple categories. I am involved earlier in the design process, and I am responsible for preparing product ideation, new product design presentations, develop color palettes and source new fabrics. I also continue to build tech packs, order, review and approve samples as well as BOMs as part of the product development process.

My main duty as an Associate Designer is to work with the Senior Designer and the product development team in the US and China to help develop new products. I assist with preparing presentations, making technical drawings, building tech packs, pattern engineering, reviewing BOM, sample ordering and reviewing and approving samples. I am also responsible for sample management and maintaining the sourcing libraries.

I started at Classic Accessories as an Assistant Designer. I worked closely with the senior designers and took on various projects in different categories. I was involved in making sample requests, building tech packs, reviewing samples, strike offs, lab dips and approving them for production. I was also responsible for improving and maintaining the sample management system and the sourcing libraries as well as help test and implement a new PLM system.

I was responsible for opening and closing the shop, checking in and filing daily incoming repair shipments as well as servicing walk in and over the phone customers. I helped the manager with scheduling, supply ordering and managing the repair team. I also performed repairs and modifications of specialty items like wetsuits, hiking backpacks and technical apparel.

As a men’s outdoor Assistant Designer, I was responsible for the design process from concept to final product. I researched new trends, materials and technologies in the outdoor industry, designed innovative new products that both set Scott apart from competitors and meet the demands of the outdoor consumer. I worked closely with the women’s outdoor designer and the sourcing department on new projects to build cohesive collections. Working with multiple seasons at a time, I built new spec packs, made design presentations, scheduled and attended fit meetings and ensured the quality of the final product.

As a repair tech I was exposed to a wide variety of outdoor fabrics as well as different garment constructions among brands. I learned how to successfully repair outerwear, outdoor equipment such as tents and sleeping bags, and specialized items like dry suits. Making warranty repairs and custom modifications for customers was a great way to learn about the construction and different technologies used on the fabrics. I moved on to an assistant manager position, where my duties involved opening and closing the shop, logging payroll hours, writing weekly schedules, fixing and maintenance of sewing machines and equipment and assisting customers.
