I began volunteering at O/N BOCES shortly after I graduated from SUNY GCC, in January of 2011. After 6 weeks of volunteering, I was hired as a Teacher Aid. Not long thereafter, I had the privilege of traveling all over Orleans and Niagara Counties to teach G.E.D., Digital Literacy, and Job Readiness Training classes to adult students who range in both age, ethnicity, learning style, and grade level. I loved it. I loved every second of the job. I personally believe that people do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care about them and their future. My role at BOCES allowed me to serve a wide range of unique individuals in helping them take the next step in life. I have written hundreds of resumes and cover letters. I have helped many people get jobs, enter training, pass the GED/TASC exam, continue their education, and more! It's an honor to serve and that's what teaching is. Teaching is a sacred profession that requires service and sacrifice from the teacher on behalf of the students. I love it. I also love coaching! Late in the fall semester of 2012, I received a phone call from my Placement Coordinator at SUNY Brockport. My Coordinator called me to ask if I would be willing to travel 50 minutes to Newfane CSD for my observational learning placement during the following spring semester. I was hesitant to confirm my appointment to Newfane, due to the long drive and the blustery, arctic winter conditions of Western New York. After learning that Newfane was in dire need of help at the school, and that I was the only Brockport student living within a reasonable proximity of the school, I accepted the placement knowing that I was needed! It was an honor to brave the snow and ice to serve the hearty citizenry and students of Newfane. During my time there, I rotated around Newfane's Special Education Teachers, teaching and tutoring in their classrooms of grades 5-8. I also tutored 5-8th grade students in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) As an overview, the AVID program is designed for students who are struggling academically but who show potential to succeed. I personally believe in AVID because it is a high accountability, mentoring and coaching program which puts very high expectations on students and then holds them to those expectations. The program will only be successful if it is directed by someone who has rapport with the students, someone who commands their respect. Otherwise, AVID will be no more than a costly study hall. Like all programs, AVID will rise or fall based on its leadership.

Served as the liaison between students, faculty, staff, clubs, and organizations at SUNY Brockport to build and develop the collective body and public image of 400+ History Majors, known as History Forum.

The decision to attend SUNY GCC was an excellent one! I miss this school with all of its wonderful faculty and staff. I learned a lot about life, how to be a better man and more productive individual from the lives of numerous faculty and staff on campus. I owe much to many individuals there, to name a few: Mrs. Palmer, Kathy Gurak, Deb Crossett, Cliff Scutella, Keb Gavin, John McGowan, and Eric Sandler. I began working on the job site with my Dad and brothers when I was only 9 years old. The tasks early on were simple: sweeping up paint chips and filling holes in the wall. By the time I left the construction field, I was recruiting employees and training them, estimating projects, and leading the crew onsite from start to finish. I learned a lot about responsibility, customer service, project management, and more. I wouldn't trade one second of time spent working with my Dad and brothers for anything.Tasks:Performed all aspects of exterior and interior finishing, including but not limited to: painting, staining, drywall, landscaping, and landscape architecture Managed customer relationships to ensure customer satisfaction, retention, and loyaltyRecruited, trained, and developed a crew of three to increase production and efficiency of jobs
