About Josefin E.

I have several years experience managing democracy, human rights and gender equality programmes at Sida and the EU Commission. I have particularly managed support to conflict torn countries such as DRC, Iraq and Burma. In 2017-2021 I was seconded national expert at the EU Commission in Brussels. I was first posted at the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) and at Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA). At DG NEAR I did project management, policy development and quality review within the framework of the EU's programmes in the "Eastern Partnership Region" (Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia). At DG-INTPA/the Unit for Democracy, Human rights and Gender Equality, I contributed to policy and in-house training and quality assessments of the Multiannual indicative programmes and Team Europe Initiatives from a human rights and gender equality perspective. Besides this experience I spent many years as Senior Advisor at the Gender Equality Unit at different ministries in Sweden. For the most my work concerned international affairs. The work involved representing Sweden in negotiations at EU level (incl. in the process towards EU ratification of the Istanbul Convention), Council of Europe and different UN negotiations. I have also been heading the Swedish delegation to the CEDAW committee hearing and participated in Sweden's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) hearing. Furthermore I have also managed the implementation of the national action plan on violence against women.Besides my assignment in the DRC (based at the Swedish Embassy) I have also worked in Tanzania (freelance consulting assignments for UN Women, WHO and WaterAid) and Sri Lanka (Programme Manager at the Norwegian Embassy). I believe that in my various assignments I have demonstrated good cooperation, creativity, analytical ability and leadership. I always meet deadlines, and I am used to work under pressure. I am very used to speaking and writing in English and I am at intermediate level in French.
