As a research fellow in the Prof Mounia Ziat’s Haptosphere lab, my research goals are to better understand perception and human interaction with the natural and artificial environment. We are studying haptic perception by combining engineering, cognitive psychology, human-computer interaction (HCI), and neuroscience to understand all aspects of human touch. From the moment our fingers touch a surface until the information gets to the brain, our study is all about making sense of the sensations that give us a stable view of the world.

Collaborating with clinicians at at BIDMC in Harvard medical school on a NIH funded research project - Design and Development of A Virtual Endoluminal Surgical Simulator (VESS) for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection.

- Research, design and development of NIH-funded virtual reality based haptic surgical simulation projects.- Worked on the R&D of simulation user interfaces, haptic feedback and the deformable physics algorithms. - Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students on various related research projects. - Research collaboration with other research groups, engineers and clinicians.Project 1: Development and Validation of a Virtual Bariatric Endoscopic (ViBE) Simulator - National Institutes of Health under Award Number R56EB026490 collaborated with Indiana Universityand University of Central Arkansas. - Worked on physics-based models of stomach, endoscope and flexible tools for endoscopic bariatric procedures. - Worked on developing training scenarios for endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) within ViBE. Project 2: Design and Development of A Virtual Endoluminal Surgical Simulator (VESS) for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection collaborated with BIDMC at Harvard medical school. - Worked on the modifications in the training scenarios for ESD in VESS. - Worked on the re-architecture and deployment of the project.

Leading haptics research.

• Amrita University's AMMACHI Labs (Amrita Multi-Modal Applications Using Computer-Human Interaction) is an academic and research center that brings an interdisciplinary approach to addressing societal challenges and empower people through Human-Computer interaction technologies.• Ammachi Labs focused on the R&D for HCI, robotics and automation, haptic technologies and applied robotics to create innovative educational tools and skill development solutions to help uplift entire communities.• I managed the haptics software team working on haptic simulators, robotics, and human-computer interaction research.• I worked in the research, design, and development of robotic systems, haptic simulators, HCI applications, and multi-modal (haptic-audio-visual) virtual reality (VR) interfaces for vocational skill training, physical rehabilitation, medical applications and education systems. • I managed many major haptics and robotics research projects and product development cycles in this role.

Research & development of 1. Multi-finger motion tracking with integrated multi-finger haptics.2. Haptics enhanced motion tracking system for virtual and remote measurement interfaces.3. Multi-finger grasping interface for controlling virtual and remote robot manipulations.

Thesis Title: "Multi-Finger Haptics for motor skill training simulations."• Conducted research on multi-finger haptics for vocational and medical motor skill training simulations.• Designed and developed a Bimanual Lumbar needle puncture training simulator and a Bimanual SMD Soldering training simulator. • Designed and developed a novel Three-Finger haptic grasping computational model and system for virtual and remote environments.• Conducted research on Tele-Robotic manipulator control using a haptic interface with force feedback.

I was a visiting PhD Research Fellow at the Chair of Media Technology at the Technische Universitaet Muenchen (Germany) as an Erasmus Mundus Heritage scholarship holder for 10 months. I did course work on Computational haptics and research on integrating deformable haptics on FEM vega libraries.
