Jo’s sustainability highlights include working with VisitOslo evaluating their current green offering, hospitality waste reduction for WRAP and working with ABTA to produce Responsible Volunteer guidelines. Jo focuses her expertise assessing current practices, identifying improvements, setting realistic goals, and implementing sustainable action plans. Taking the opportunity to see the world in 2006, Jo volunteered in Cambodia utilising her hospitality background in helping local business utilise the booming tourism industry as a means of breaking free from the poverty cycle, whilst carefully managing the positive and negative impacts of tourism. In 2008, Jo jointly founded Harnessing Opportunities through Play and Education, a registered charity in England and Wales, focusing on grass root projects running integration programmes for vulnerable young adults specifically in tourism and hospitality vocational training in Siem Reap. During this time, she also worked hard gaining a master’s degree in Responsible Tourism Management. Early on in her career Jo worked for a selection of country house hotels in Southeast England tele-researching and marketing before organising events and account managing. Moving to London she firmly established herself as a competent key Account Manager and Director of Sales & Marketing for a 4 Star hotel. Jo has published articles in the Tourism Society Journal, written tourism articles in local Siem Reap tour guides, researched content for Footprint Cambodia and South-East Asia Handbooks and contributed to the travel book ‘To Cambodia with Love’.
