Mekong Experiences is a small tourism consultancy specialising in responsible hospitality and tourism management. We focus our expertise on assessing current sustainability practices, identifying improvements, setting realistic goals, and implementing sustainable action plans. We work on exciting projects like sustainability mapping, for VisitOslo. Building sustainable university student work-based experiences across Southeast Asia and liaising with local projects to match their needs with university funds and volunteers. We specialise in advising on better ways to manage, measure and evaluate environmental, social, and economic impacts and help businesses to understand and market their responsible tourism values effectively to a wider audience through their own website and social media. We have developed criteria to analyse sustainability actions, established child protection policies, designed project selection criteria, carried out risk assessments and written standard operating procedures. Whilst living in Cambodia between 2006 and 2012 we consulted hoteliers in responsible business practices and worked closely with the Soria Moria Boutique Hotel which won the 2012 Responsible Tourism Award in ‘Best Accommodation for Local Communities’, also winner of the 2012 Wild Asia Responsible Tourism Awards in ‘Best in Community Engagement and Development’ and finalist in the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards in ‘Community Benefit.

Harnessing Opportunities Through Play And Education - Hope

HOPE's mission is to give the children and young adults of Cambodia a better future through play, education and vocational training in order to harness opportunity and positive change. Its main aim is to fund and assist organisations running integration programmes for vulnerable young adults to become independent and responsible individuals. Funds have helped youngsters up the employment ladder (and in some cases relatively high), more importantly forge a sustainable livelihood for them and their new families. Some of the projects HOPE supported have successfully contributed to global research and significant work in family first care strategies shifting child-care away from institutional care and vocational training for young offenders in prisons, which has had unprecedented impact on non-re-offending.As an active volunteer and trustee, I work closely with project managers in Cambodia co-ordinating engagement, researching and collating data to prepare reports to donors, track project grants and prepare memorandums of understandings. In addition, I get involved in fundraising and manage a database to co-ordinate mailings and fundraising campaigns.
