In cooperation with the UNFCCC Secretariat, the Climate Chain Coalition (CCC) is an open global initiative to support collaboration among members and stakeholders to advance the use of blockchain (distributed ledger technology) and related digital solutions (e.g. IoT, big data) to help mobilize climate finance and support climate policy including enhancing MRV (measurement, reporting and verification) to scale up climate actions for mitigation and adaptation, and to build trust among stakeholders.Knowledge sharing and radical collaboration are essential to help blockchain and related digital solutions grow from early stage developments and to mature as scaled-up technology serving sustainability. Via CCC public events during major conferences, including COP, as well as via online platforms, the CCC has reached thousands of stakeholders. Gaia Amazonas protegió 25 millones de hectáreas de la Amazonia para territorios indígenas, consiguió el reconocimiento de 14 organizaciones comunitarias indígenas como gobiernos locales, formó la Alianza Amazónica Norte en 100 millones de hectáreas de 5 países amazónicos y puso en marcha nuevas estrategias medioambientales interculturales con los pueblos indígenas y el Estado. El 25 de junio de 2024, la Corte Constitucional profirió la primera sentencia en el país sobre derechos de los pueblos indígenas y mercados de créditos de carbono (T-248 de 2024). En septiembre, el Consejo Indígena del Pirá Paraná respondió al máximo intérprete de la Constitución y precisó las reglas de juego para los mecanismos de mitigación que se hagan en su territorio. Desde la Fundación Gaia Amazonas destacamos cinco elementos mencionados en esa decisión: (i) que respeten sus formas de gobierno, (ii) que sirvan de fuente de financiación de las entidades territoriales indígenas —promesa aún sin materializar desde 1991—, (iii) que se desplieguen en conjunto con los pueblos de afinidad cultural Yuruparí, (iv) que se hagan sin intermediarios, y (v) que se desarrollen de conformidad con sus Planes de Vida y sus sistemas de conocimiento.Mi rol como asesor de Francisco von Hildebrand (CEO de Fundación Gaia Amazonas) es promover una estrategia de financiación innovadora, indígena, soberana y que permita la autogestión. Permitiendo, o no, un primer proyecto REDD+ en su territorio. Y en caso tal, de qué forma debe regularse para cumplir con sus Planes de Vida y sus sistemas de conocimiento, mientras aplican a distintos esquemas de carbono tanto voluntarios como soberanos en virtud del Artículo 6 del Acuerdo de París.

Invited by Terrasos as a member of the scientific-technical team that co-designed and supervised the first draft of the "Protocol for the Issuance of Voluntary Biodiversity Credits". Offering a quick and complete vision of the necessary definitions for the design and operation of conservation projects interested in issuing Voluntary Biodiversity Credits under the principles of integrity offered by the Protocol. In this way, it contributes to the construction of regenerative projects in the long term and generators of environmental, social and economic value in the territories where they are developed. Also involved in the Digital Tokens for Biodiversity Innovation Challenge project, led by Terrasos with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and its innovation laboratory, IDB Lab. This initiative was launched to identify innovative solutions that use these instruments to promote biodiversity conservation and facilitate action on climate change.Terrasos proposal combines the concept of biodiversity credit with digital tokens to provide greater traceability and transparency to transactions by implementing distributed ledger technologies (DTL), which store information in multiple locations at any given time.

Hemp the Climate is a global alliance and an environmental campaign created to support the ongoing worldwide efforts to destigmatize industrial hemp by promoting the plant as a potent carbon sequestration and soil enhancement tool, while simultaneously stressing the development of hemp for commercial use to create stable circular and bio-economies.Connecting the principles and practices of regenerative organic agriculture with decades of experience in the hemp industry we have found that there is a direct link, so far not thoroughly investigated between hemp and its potential to mitigate the climate crisis.We are therefore forming an action-based campaign to get this idea widely recognized and incorporated by farmers, industry stakeholders, policymakers, governments and international organizations working around climate change.Our team and board members have over 20 years of experience in every step of the hemp production chain. We constantly track current market opportunities and latest developments in the regulatory environment for hemp and other related fields.

As part of a multi-faceted mitigation strategy, planting trees can play an important role in the fight against climate change and the devastation it causes (heat waves, drought, forest loss, desertification, erosion, flooding).Life Terra seeks to bring people together to plant 500 million trees in 5 years, harnessing and monitoring nature’s own carbon capture mechanism and enabling citizens to take urgent action against the climate crisis.Life Terra is one of Europe’s largest climate action initiatives. For 4 years now we have implemented innovative strategies in favor of coral and the 14th objective of the United Nations Program for Sustainable Development (Life under Water).Active Members of the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) for UNESCO.Setting in motion the restoration of the mesoamerican reef by presenting a “1 vote = 1 coral” initiative during the Quintana Roo State elections of 2016 of then candidate and now Governor Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez. Now the State government, INAPESCA and CONANP have the commitment of planting 260,000 colonies of coral (24 units per colony, 6´240,000 units of coral) under this administration, generating a tendency in the public sector in favor of the coral reef, also promoting an agreement in our nations Senate through Senator Luz María Beristain, who is the Secretary of the National Commission for Climate Change, where the Third Work Commission of the Permanent Commission of Congress, Secretary of Finances, Agriculture and Promotion, Communications and Public Works recognized the implementation of Emerging Technologies in favor of the environment, the use of Virtual Reality Tech and Enhanced Reality, Big Data and Blockchain, the scope reached in specialized international forums and the active coral farms working for 5 years now in Cozumel.Working collaboratively with local actors like the Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Program who also has submarine farms in a buffer zone with a large tourist traffic, a solutions are planted based on this market that could transform tourism as the force behind the restoration of the coral reef.

Deforestation and forest degradation account for approximately 17 per cent of carbon emissions, more than the entire global transportation sector and second only to the energy sector. It is now clear that in order to constrain the impacts of climate change within limits that society will reasonably be able to tolerate, global average temperatures must be stabilized within two degrees Celsius. This will be practically impossible to achieve without reducing emissions from the forest sector, in addition to other mitigation actions.Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) is a mechanism developed by Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It creates a financial value for the carbon stored in forests by offering incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions from forested lands and invest in low-carbon paths to sustainable development. Developing countries would receive results-based payments for results-based actions. REDD+ goes beyond simply deforestation and forest degradation, and includes the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks.

The global campaign of UN Billion Tree Campaigne (Plant for the Planet) organized by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) had to goal to fight climate change in a concrete manner and to raise awareness in society about our environment, actively inviting people to participate in planting trees, This was inspired by Nobel price winner and founder of the Kenya Green Belt Movement (GBM) Professor Wangari Maathai.As fundraising external advisor, I managed a campaign for institutional relationships and fundraising on the International year for Biodiversity in 2010 and Forestry in 2011, coordinating the subsequent plantation of 47M trees. Spain was the main contributor of the European countries to the world wide campaign by UNEP, thanks to the support of governments, enterprises, schools, citizens and conservation organizations.

The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) was called for by the United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan in 2000. Initiated in 2001, the objective of the MA was to assess the consequences of ecosystem change for human well-being and the scientific basis for action needed to enhance the conservation and sustainable use of those systems and their contribution to human well-being. The MA has involved the work of more than 1,360 experts worldwide. Their findings, contained in five technical volumes and six synthesis reports, provide a state-of-the-art scientific appraisal of the condition and trends in the world’s ecosystems and the services they provide (such as clean water, food, forest products, flood control, and natural resources) and the options to restore, conserve or enhance the sustainable use of ecosystems.
