Advisor To Chief Executive OfficerGaia Amazonas Foundation Apr 2023 - PresentBogotá, Cundinamarca, CoGaia Amazonas protegió 25 millones de hectáreas de la Amazonia para territorios indígenas, consiguió el reconocimiento de 14 organizaciones comunitarias indígenas como gobiernos locales, formó la Alianza Amazónica Norte en 100 millones de hectáreas de 5 países amazónicos y puso en marcha nuevas estrategias medioambientales interculturales con los pueblos indígenas y el Estado. El 25 de junio de 2024, la Corte Constitucional profirió la primera sentencia en el país sobre derechos de los pueblos indígenas y mercados de créditos de carbono (T-248 de 2024). En septiembre, el Consejo Indígena del Pirá Paraná respondió al máximo intérprete de la Constitución y precisó las reglas de juego para los mecanismos de mitigación que se hagan en su territorio. Desde la Fundación Gaia Amazonas destacamos cinco elementos mencionados en esa decisión: (i) que respeten sus formas de gobierno, (ii) que sirvan de fuente de financiación de las entidades territoriales indígenas —promesa aún sin materializar desde 1991—, (iii) que se desplieguen en conjunto con los pueblos de afinidad cultural Yuruparí, (iv) que se hagan sin intermediarios, y (v) que se desarrollen de conformidad con sus Planes de Vida y sus sistemas de conocimiento.Mi rol como asesor de Francisco von Hildebrand (CEO de Fundación Gaia Amazonas) es promover una estrategia de financiación innovadora, indígena, soberana y que permita la autogestión. It is now clear that in order to constrain the impacts of climate change within limits that society will reasonably be able to tolerate, global average temperatures must be stabilized within two degrees Celsius. This will be practically impossible to achieve without reducing emissions from the forest sector, in addition to other mitigation actions.Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) is a mechanism developed by Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It creates a financial value for the carbon stored in forests by offering incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions from forested lands and invest in low-carbon paths to sustainable development. Developing countries would receive results-based payments for results-based actions. REDD+ goes beyond simply deforestation and forest degradation, and includes the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks. -
