I have developed all my career at the University of Vigo, and I've been involved in all the areas related to the University mission: teaching, research, development, innovation and management.Since 2013 I am involved in the spin-off relEYEble, focused in providing computer vision solutions to diferent market segments.From an academic perspective, I am interested in the role of the University in the society, both as a way of conducting excellence in knowledge and as a way to promote research in companies. In the R&D area, I am interested in all the topics related to pattern recognition in machine vision and multi-modal human-computer interaction, with special emphasis in sign language recognition, biometric identification, face detection, analysis and recognition, computer assisted driving, and automatic inspection in industry. I have worked in more than 40 regional, national and european projects, being the leader of 30 (details below). In the Computer Vision Lab we develop innovative solutions for companies. Grounded in a solid scientific basis, we study a specific company need and we design a reliable system that fulfills its expectations. We work with state-of-the-art machine vision technologies, both hardware (cameras, sensors and lighting) and software (vision libraries and ad-hoc algorithmic developments).During the last 20 years I have leadered 35 projects, most of them related to computer vision and machine learning. The main applications we developed where related to:* vision-based quality-control and classification for the alimentary industry, * human-machine interfaces, * biometric recognition, * medical image processing and * advanced driver assistance systems.
