I believe that we need bold leaders to tackle the most pressing social issue from homelessness to poverty to global warming. My personal mission is to make sure they succeed. For the last 4+ years, I have worked as the Director of Finance and Operations for Amigos de Guadalupe. I was responsible for managing the infrastructure needed to support the astronomical growth of Amigos from a humble 600K nonprofit to $13+ million dollars. The folks at Amigos are doing incredible work and I’m proud of being able to support them. I am now taking the lessons I have learned along the way to build apps so that others don’t have the same struggle. Doing the good work to make the world a better place is not easy. It takes a huge toll on everyone involved. In my case, I was eating out every night since I was too tired to cook. I had trouble sleeping at night, asking myself if I was doing enough or if I was good enough. During the workday, I struggled with processes that were highly efficient. I’m sure many reading this can relate to this.I started experimenting with myself and building apps to codify what I learned in the process. It started with building a custom to do list app to manage the hundreds of tasks on my plate on any given week. The relief of having everything I needed to complete in one place was incredible. Then I started building a cookbook app to eat healthier. App after app, my stress levels went down and I was more productive at work. That’s how socialXimpact came to be. I want to share these apps with other folks fighting for social change. If you’re interested in using the apps or bringing these tools to your nonprofit, check out our website www.socialXimpact.com and shoot me an email at jose@socialXimpact.com I also recommend you check out Amigos de Guadalupe at http://www.amigoscenter.com I remember when we were just a team of 10. Now, we have 60+ employees and operate two hotels, a solar powered tiny home community, the historic home of Cesar Chavez, provided over 5 million dollars of financial assistance, etc. I am who I am because of them.Personal Details: I grew up in poverty but with two loving parents that believed that we had the potential to achieve whatever we set our minds to. I was blessed to obtain a full ride scholarship to the University of Chicago, where I studied economics and public policy. I decided to come back to San Jose because I wanted to give back to my community. I love numbers, tech and doing my part to make the world a better place.
