From 2021 to the present I have been working at the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum recently completing a an IMLS grant funded project to recatalog, decolonize, and digitize over 600 historic newspapers in their collections. These new descriptions can be viewed on the museums’s online collections and make them more accessible while pointing out the bias and facts in the papers. During this time I worked as an active part of the collections team, assisting with research requests, events, exhibitions, writing articles for the Seminole Tribune, and presenting at the Association of Tribal Archives Libraries and Museum’s conference in 2023. Working at Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki for the Seminole Tribe of Florida, is a rewarding experience where I have learned what it means to be an ally for minority communities and advocate for Museums to work in concert with their community. From 2020 to the end of 2021 through the height of the COVID 19 pandemic I worked as an assistant manager of a store expanding my managerial, organizational, and project management skills while looking for jobs in the GLAM sector. In January of 2020 I was awarded a postgraduate degree with merit in museum studies from the University of Leicester. While at Leicester I undertook a master program in museum studies to learn about this history, mission, and operations of museums and cultural institutions. Unfortunately, due to several compounding life complications I finished the program without compelling my master’s thesis. Earning a Postgraduate Diploma and soon I will be working with the University of Leicester to finish my thesis and be achieve a MA in museum studies in 2024. In 2017 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida in History, with a minor in Art History. Also, concentrations in computer science and chemistry. I went into school following the premed track but fell in love with museums and cultural institutions through a series of study abroad courses in Europe. Having obtained an understanding of art, history, chemistry, and technology I set out to utilize my knowledge in the GLAM sector and help educate people of all ages. So I took a year to plan and apply for graduate schools.
