I am currently looking for a new Project Management role as this is where I believe my skills, experience and more importantly future will be based. My role as a Lead Engineer within Jaguar Land Rover means I have a great deal of experience working around Timing Plans, dealing with costs submitted by suppliers and managing those costs within the programme budget. There are also challenges in managing engineering resources to ensure successful delivery of the project at hand. Project management revolves around creating and sticking to a robust timing plan, I believe a sound plan is crucial to ensuring both my supplier and I understand the critical path and what jobs need to be undertaken and when to complete the project within the specific gateway. A single project for Jaguar Land Rover can take up to 4 years and throughout that project there are different gateways that a lead engineer must adhere to, deadlines to be met and the right documentation to be completed to provide clear feedback to the senior management team. As a lead Engineer; one of the key responsibilities is to manage both the set budget given to you by the programme team and the cost submitted by the supplier. Normally the two don’t match and working with the supplier to create cost saves is a regular practice whether it is to reduce the tooling bill of reduce the design and development costs. Recently I had to ensure what £10 million in tooling and over £1,2 million in D&D (design and development) was spent on. This means I had to be deeply involved in the break down of costs ensuring there was no over expenditure and when possible trying to create reductions in the overall quote. I know that the work that I have been doing will help me greatly within project management as I manage costs, deal with customers and build on the relationships between Jaguar Land Rover and its suppliers.
