After spending the first two-thirds of my life in Houston, Texas and the outskirts of Grand Rapids, Michigan, I’m glad to have landed here in Northern Kentucky, where I been blessed with several virtuous friends and a smorgasbord of historic artistic and cultural institutions.I once only felt at home when studying history and philosophy, but I’ve found so much joy in my friends and my studies that I am beginning to realize how much we take for granted and how rarely we admit what we truly want: to be seen and loved, even in spite of our shortcomings.Perhaps that is why I feel drawn to relational industries, like my current position as an Art Gallery Assistant at my university. Through this position, I’ve been able to meet with and assist local artists while also attending several art openings that have slowly fostered an ambition is to promote involvement and recognition of Covington and Cincinnati's heritage and culture.Legally, I have been working since I turned fourteen in various capacities for friends of my family and my local church community. In that time, I’ve realized several things about myself:1. I can’t stand meaningless corporate language. I say what I mean and I mean to be helpful and insightful. A Socratic dialogue class taught me that not everyone knows how to express their thoughts right away but with a little patience and good faith just about anyone can begin to understand each other.2. I value order, security, and peace. In my manager position at a zip line tour company, my staff trusted me to keep our operations running smoothly, even in the case of medical emergencies or surprise inspections. I found that my staff would trust me more if they saw me cleaning, working, and listening to their complaints and recommendations.3. A weakness: I am not good at confrontation. Once when I was wrapping up the day with an employee, he told me that he had never heard me yell and couldn’t imagine it happening. I took that as a compliment. I always prefer to negotiate when conflict arises, but if I know I’m in the wrong, I don’t feel right until I work to fix the issue.4. A strength: I am creative and detail-oriented. Living in several states and moving schools often taught me to be adaptable, so I work until I know what principles are always true, and when I am not sure how to proceed with a specific guest's problem, I’ll observe the evidence and make a snap judgment from what I know has worked in the past. My comfort zone has just enough rules to allow a personal touch to a professional response.
