At AstraZeneca PLC since 2007, I have worked as an oncology research physician in Research and Development in the Cancer Therapeutic Area (2007), a Medical Science Director for the Early Project Team 2 (2008), and a Sr. Director in Clinical Discovery Team at AstraZeneca. I formulated a comprehensive plan for clinical development, from Target Identification through Phase II Proof of Concept trials for new agents developed by Discovery Medicine. This role extends to corroborating the clinical significance of potential targets, as well as potential clinical toxicities of target inhibition. This includes as a role with Global Safety assessment. I am responsible for determining the predictive biomarkers for patient selection as well as biomarkers in the clinical trials for proof of mechanism, principle and concept. I have established, facilitated and nurtured several academic collaborations to assist in the selection among lead compounds based on target efficacy, patient selection criteria and rational combination therapies for the clinic. In collaboration with AZ’s Disease Area Teams, I design the phase I and II studies through Proof of Concept. In co-operation with the Medical and Global Science Directors I establish the milestones and decision points for the 4-6 agents currently in pre-clinical and phase I stage of development. I have participated in the Strategic Planning and Business Development for all my time at AZ.
