After graduating from UNM I attended Washington University (St, Louis) where I received a Master’s degree of Architecture & Urban Design. I worked part time while attending UNM for Joe Boehing AIA, 1965 when the planning and design for the UNM “Pit” where being developed. I also worked for on a plan for Downtown Albuquerque which won the AIA Community Design Award in 1966.After graduate school I worked for a couple of years in California for Gruen Associates, LA and the City of Oakland.In 1971 I took a position in the planning group with Reynolds, Smith and Hills, AEP in Jacksonville, FL. I spend 20 years with RS&H including 2 years in Tabuk Saudi Arabia managing a Town Planning Office, for the City of Tabuk and its region. I left RS&H in and did some consulting work, and in 1994 joined a local planning firm Landers-Atkins Planners where I became a partner and Vice President of Urban Design, my work included redevelopment planning, streetscape design, form base codes, and various other urban design assignments. The firm was sold to HDR Engineering in 2001 which was the basis for HDR to enter the planning field in the Jacksonville.During my last two years before retirement I was asked to complete a project for the HDR Albuquerque office. This project for the City of Albuquerque the “Great Streets Facilities Plan” offered me the opportunity to travel to Albuquerque several times. I had not visit the campus and the city since 1967. Work on the Great Streets Plan allowed me to speak at several national conferences on the characteristics and design of Great Streets, including: Partners for Smart Growth-Albuquerque 2009 and the American Public Works Congress-New Orleans 2009. I was an active member in the following professional organizations: Congress for New Urbanism, Urban Land Institute, American Planning Association, Charter Member American Institute of Certified Planners in 1974.
