About Joseph Gerardi

Joseph Gerardi is a founder and has successfully led the Company since it’s inception in 1988. He has acquired, directed, and delivered on over 50 research and development contracts with the Army, Navy, DARPA, SDIO, NSF, and several NASA centers, and has completed technology transfer negotiations with several large U.S. corporations and international trading companies, such as BF Goodrich Aerospace, Raytheon, Quixote Transportation Systems, and the Yokogawa Electric Corporation of Japan.At Innovative Dynamics, Mr. Gerardi has managed numerous programs to develop structural integrity monitoring systems, stall warning systems, and ice detection and removal systems based on smart materials and holds over a dozen US patents and applications. These prototype systems have flown on F-16, F/A-18, F-104, and DH-6 research aircraft. He is co-inventor of a shape memory alloy-based deicing system, and has been a featured NASA exhibitor for aircraft safety technology at the semi-annual Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) show for several years. In addition to this noteworthy technical and business experience, Joseph Gerardi has degrees in electrical and aeronautical engineering from the University of Maryland, and as a certified instrument-rated pilot has extensive experience in corporate, flight test, and personal flying. IDI develops intelligent sensor systems for improved aircraft and ground vehicle safety. Our state-of-the-art products are aimed at making transportation systems better and smarter with consequent savings in human life. Our research lies in advanced materials, electronics, optics, sensors, mechanical systems, structures, and signal processing. IDI sensors are key to future vehicle Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS). HUMS provide the capability to monitor critical systems and components including engines, rotor and controls, drive train, and fatigue-life limited structures including wiring systems. Our company has successfully transitioned several technologies to the market place including: SmartBootTM, an inflatable de-icing boot containing integral ice detection; and an electro-expulsive deicing system for the new Raytheon Premier I business jet. Under my direction, IDI has recently introduced a new series of environmental sensors to the marketplace trademarked as "IceSight" that measure hazardous conditions on highways, bridges, and airport runways.
