Responsible for the Thermal and Mechanical Design of amplifier assemblies for premium automotive sound systems. Lead mechanical engineer on cross-functional design team of “Callisto” and “Santa Cruz” series amplifiers used in luxury General Motors and Mazda vehicles. Responsible for creating solid models and drawings of die cast heat sink/housing, stamped steel cover + EMI shield, and injection molded connectors. Amplifiers must maximize thermal efficiency, minimize cost, and be robust against harsh customer validation requirements. Early design stages involve performing thermal + stress/strain FEA and tolerance studies on this 3D model to prove design feasibility. As the program matures, design work consists of conducting thermal analysis tests, performing strain tests based upon results of tolerance studies, and assist electrical engineering, software engineering, and validation teams on any interdisciplinary issues. Work with suppliers, manufacturing and project managers to finalize the design and ensure project deadlines are met.Achievements: Invented new tolerance stackup analysis tool using MATLAB to determine optimal thermal pad integration in new amplifier designs amidst several conflicting design goals.
