Throughout most of my life, two characteristics have defined my professional path. The first being my need for understanding for both the how and why things work and the second is always never settling for “average” and challenging myself. This is why I not only chose to pursue electrical engineering but also begin learning about the ever evolving telecommunications space.Growing up in a rural town in southern Minnesota was not necessarily the perfect setup for achieving greatness. My family rarely ever strayed far from home and did not bother staying up to date within the world of technology. I realized in high school I needed to get out and experience the world, so I joined the Marine Corps. This was my way of break out of my “average” lifestyle and attempt to try something new by working in the field of signals intelligence. The mixture of working with radio and computer equipment and a steady income gave me the means to explore the world of technology. Growing up in Minnesota, where having Windows 98 on a computer in 2005 was the norm, having access to up to date technology grew my fascination with how things worked and why. When my contract with the Marine Corps was over, I immediately being pursuing my degree in Electrical Engineering.My time in the Marine Corps was productive because it helped me realize my passion, not only did I get to work with technology all day, every day, I was able to grow to the point where I got to teach others. I took a lot of pride in working with people who came from the same places I did, with limited exposure to technology and taking them from knowing nothing to being technically proficient on the equipment. Helping people understand technology became the driving force behind my need of understanding. This carried on even to my college career at UCSD, where I achieved provost honors in all quarters while helping my friend with course concepts.I graduated in June of 2022 with my degree in Electrical Engineering and am currently climbing the RAN Engineering ranks at AT&T. I am looking to connect with other telecommunications and electrical engineers.
