Joseph is Professor of Sustainable Tourism and Heritage, and Associate Dean, International, School of Social Sciences, Western Sydney University, Australia. He is Co Editor-in-Chief of Tourism Geographies by Taylor & Francis, a leading scientific journal at the nexus of tourism and geographies research.In 2023, Joseph was appointed Co-Chair American Association of Geographers - Recreation, Tourism & Sport (AAG-RTS) and Co-Chair, World Economic Forum, Global Future Council on the Future of Sustainable Tourism.Joseph was elected to the board of PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) in 2021 and served until 2023. He also holds board positions with International Geographical Union (IGU) Commission on Tourism, and Critical Tourism Studies - Asia Pacific. Joseph is also a Visiting Professor at: Center for Tourism Research, Wakayama University, Japan; Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand; UCSI University, Malaysia.His research draws from trans disciplinary perspectives, especially human/economic geography, cultural anthropology and political economy, particularly in the Asia Pacific. As a former practitioner, practicing consultant and analyst, his work emphasizes resilience building, sustainability and social justice. Joseph is interested in research that offers practice-based responses and solutions to pressing tourism sector and visitor economy issues, and the assemblages around these.His recent book collaborations include:1.
