Hello, my name is Joseph Montgomery Walker, but everyone calls me Monty, and I am a Mechanical Engineering student at Grove City College. My past/current experiences with Five Filer Brothers as a Mechanical Engineering Intern have taught me a lot about manufacturing for a small manufacturing company. The importance of being capable of moving from project to project with ease, maintaining inventory, keeping track of orders, and maintaining good communication between your superiors and coworkers, to name a few. On top of this, I learned how to program, run and maintain/service a Water Jet Cutter. This internship has been a great learning experience and one step closer to my goal/dream of being a Project Manager and eventually owning my own mid-size manufacturing company.The Grove City College SAE BAJA Club (GCC BAJA Club) has significantly impacted my learning here at Grove City College. With this club, the seniors taught me important topics, programs, skills, and practical experiences like FEA, SHEETCAM, programming and running plasma tables, lathes, wire EDMs, and vertical mills. Also teaching myself SolidWorks with its Fluid Simulation and Fusion 360. I am currently the 2022-2023 President of the club and have successfully organized the club's second BAJA race for local BAJA teams. The 2021-2022 GCC BAJA Club President planned the first race in an extremely short time period and did an excellent job planning for the club's first hosted race; however, not much material was recorded during and after the race. This has taught me a lot as I continue to plan this race, recording everything mainly using Microsoft Word and Excel. With this, though, I have had to write new/edit team invite emails and alumni volunteer emails, for example. On top of this, I used this race as a chance for other GCC Engineering Clubs like the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to help with concessions and increase relations with the other Engineering Clubs at Grove City College. The goal of this race for the years to come is to become the most significant College level Baja race not sanctioned by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) similar to the Midnight Mayhem in Kentucky before Covid-19 hit the United States.
