Joe Morrill’s practice focuses on civil and probate litigation, particularly cases involving will and trust contests, financial elder abuse, fraud, deceit, and other related claims. Joe has represented plaintiffs and defendants, including beneficiaries, trustees, executors, agents under durable powers of attorney, conservators, private professional fiduciaries, nursing homes, elders, and the family members or friends of elders, in all aspects of litigation, including both bench and jury trials. Joe routinely appears for hearings and motions, and is well versed in all aspects of discovery, including depositions of lay witnesses and expert witnesses. Joe is also experienced in all aspects of settlement negotiation and mediation, and is certified as a mediator included on the Contra Costa Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Panel of Neutrals.Additionally, Joe's practice includes appellate cases across the California Court of Appeal, the California Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court on a range of subjects from will and trust contests, financial elder abuse, breach of contract, and federal constitutional arguments.Joe's past experience includes obtaining multiple defense verdicts in trials representing trustees against actions contesting trusts alleging lack of capacity, undue influence, breach of fiduciary duty, and financial elder abuse. Joe has also represented plaintiffs in obtaining jury and bench verdicts, judgments, and elder abuse writs of attachment.Joe is the Chair of the Contra Costa County Bar Association Elder Law Section, a Board Member of the Contra Costa County Bar Association Estate Planning and Trust Section, and a Board Member of Contra Costa Senior Legal Services.
