Lyceum Schools, Inc. is excited to open The Delores Taylor Arthur School for Young Men - a free, open enrollment charter school designed to serve the young men of metropolitan New Orleans. in grades 9 - 12. The school will prepare students for college and/or career readiness through a program of challenging academics, social and emotional learning, robust extra-curricular programs, opportunities for student leadership, and a commitment to community service. We believe our school offers a compelling vision, long term goals, and an educational program that will serve the unique needs of young men in the Greater New Orleans community. As Academic Director I will be responsible for the academic program which will be rooted in developing the 21st century learning skills of critical thinking, creativity, community and problem solving. The program has been created with the philosophy that a strong academic program is grounded in relationship and rigor.

I work with the Discovery Walks Team and specifically work as a coach with the school principal to help the school's academic team realize their academic goals.

Everyone in life has a story. Some stories are dramatic, some are sorrowful and some are rather normal and ordinary. However, as we go through life, we come to realize that no matter how ordinary we may consider our own story, there is certainly meaning and uniqueness in it, and perhaps a few lessons to be gleaned; lessons which may enlighten, entertain and even inspire some in their own journeys in life and their stories yet to be written. This is my story of how I grew through my college days to become what I had only dreamed I could become and about the wonderful experiences along the way that helped us, my teammates and I, write a rich history of success and accomplishment in the legacy of USL athletics. It is a story of struggle, doubt, courage, tenacity, fate and most importantly love. It is set at a time in the world that the “times they were a changing”. It is a story of transition and growth in society, in cultural values and in our own growth and personal values. It is a story about a group of guys who all landed in that one place at that one time. Some of us chose to be in that setting and some of us were chosen to be in that setting. We were a melting pot with diverse backgrounds and cultures, yet were learned to come together in harmony to make history for ourselves and for USL. We chose USL or somehow USL chose us to do great things, make history, and “Come of Age”.

During my tenure at Holy Cross School, I served as High School principal and assistant Headmaster of the school. Our team was responsible for the re-building of the school's physical plant after Katrina and the re-birth of an advanced academic curriculum inclusive of Advanced Placement , Dual Enrollment courses as well as the implementation of the Brother James McDonnell Scholars Program. The school experienced tremendous academic growth in the rebuilding years post Katrina. as a result the advanced curriculum producing many National Merit semi-finalist and qualifying our young men for such prestigious universities as Notre Dame , the US Naval Academy, Pomona College and Boston College to name a few.

Taught Graduate level classes in School Leadership, Principalship, School Finance, School-Community Relations as well as served on Doctoral Dissertation Committees.

• Brought order and discipline to the school that was in chaos in 1995 • Stabilized the curriculum, implemented the 4x 4 schedule • Reduced enrollment to manageable level from 1820 to 1600 • Implemented the “Small Learning Communities” grant through the US Dept. of Education• Implemented a successful “Freshman Academy” and a Career Academy Curriculum.• Attained “Title I” status securing over $1M in additional funding• Eliminated a $40,000 budget deficit inherited for the previous administration

• Implemented a conditioning program inclusive of strength training, flexibility and cardiovascular routines• Implemented complete testing program for mini-camp, training camps• In 1973 the Bills offense achieved an NFL record rushing of 3088 yards and in 1974 season they made the playoffs and lost to Pittsburgh (Super Bowl Champs) that year in the first round
