Development and characterization of preclinical models to understand the molecular pathobiology of neurological and psychiatric disorders (focus on Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy and posttraumatic stress disorder). Our goal is to unravel the underlying factors driving these conditions and to identify novel therapeutic targets for disease-modifying strategies. Specific interests - role of glial cells and cerebrovascular pathobiology, contribution of genetic risk factors (e.g. APOE4 allele), tauopathies, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, neuroinflammation & neuroimmune processes and neuroendocrine dysfunction.Methods - Histopathological and molecular analyses of >> autopsied brain tissue (TBI/ADRD/PTSD); humanized preclinical models of ADRD proteinopathy, brain injury and repetitive/unpredictable traumatic stress; inducible Cre-LoxP models and tet-Off/On reversible models; intracranial AAV administration models; ex vivo adult primary cell cultures and in vitro cell culture models.
