Dr. Joseph Park is a research and development scientist and engineer at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology specializing in nonlinear dynamics and complex systems. Previously, he served as the Chief of Engineering and Development at the United Nations Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation.Dr. Park is the founder and Program Director of the Software Literacy Foundation, a public charity dedicated to inspiring and educating youth to pursue educational and career paths in software development. WIth the U.S. Department of the Interior he was a physical and information scientist contributing to Everglades Restoration and Science Communication.At NOAA he led oceanographic projects at the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services. At the National Center for Physical Acoustics he tracked tornadoes with remotely sensed infrasound. At the University of Hawaii he directed and installed an underwater multi-sensor oceanographic observatory, including full-spectrum design and project management. He also tested and elucidated the theoretical basis of a controllable infrasound source. As a faculty member of the Florida Atlantic University Department of Ocean Engineering he instructed courses in Acoustics, Circuit Theory & Design, Digital Electronics, Digital Signal Processing, Mechanical Dynamics, Structural Analysis and Vibration Control. Research included AUV acoustic communication and control, oceanographic surveys, and application of information discrimination measures to accelerate learning algorithms of neural networks.Dr. Park was the founder and President of Zenith Engineering Inc., a Florida corporation providing structural engineering and software development consulting to Fortune 500 companies. Dr. Park designed, supervised, and inspected over 60 commercial and residential construction projects in South Florida. Research for ONR developed fault-tolerant distributed power and control systems for Naval vessel command and control, and he was a numerical model developer at the South Florida Water Management District.With the U.S. Navy he was an electrical & ocean engineer focusing on the analysis and development of underwater acoustic and terrestrial electromagnetic communication and tracking systems, and conducted oceanographic surveys.
