Claims Advisor
I had a wide variety of responsibilities in my role as claims advisor at BGL. As a claims advisor I spent half of my time taking new motor claims from policy holders or named drivers that have been in motor traffic accidents. This requires a large amount of empathy and sensitivity as all cases are unique and circumstances may be quite difficult. After taking the first notification of loss I then assessed the case and offered the relevant services to clients based on the circumstances of the incident. Another part of this responsibility included speaking to several companies and insurance underwriters to guide the customer along the journey of their claim. On top of this role I was also a member of the review team in the contact centre, reporting directly to the Operations Manager. This involved calling clients to ensure their claim is processing as it should do, for example if there was information missing during the claim I would chase up this information on behalf of the customer in order to be able to get them into a replacement vehicle whilst theirs is off the road to minimise the inconvenience to them throughout the course of the claim. Also as part of this role in BGL, I allocated cases to the members of staff on the review team so that every team member has a workload. Managing this workload on a personal level is vitally important, so that the appropriate amount of time is spent on clients and their needs are met, again to reduce the inconvenience of having to go through a motor insurance claim.
Field Engineer
My role at Openreach was deliver Telephone and Fibre Optic Broadband services as well as troubleshooting, fault finding and fixing many types of connection faults.I completed 8 weeks of training away from home for the role and was buddied with experienced engineers for a number of weeks. A typical day for me would be; picking up my jobs or ‘tour of work’ first thing on a morning, working out in what order to do my jobs to maximise efficiency and meet appointment times and the expectations of customers and service providers. In the role I usually worked alone, using my own organisational skills to ensure all jobs are carried out to the required standards, and my customer service skills to engage with customers, be it in a residential or business environment. No two jobs were ever the same, so I quickly learned to adapt to changing conditions and pressures in order to fulfill my duties. On top of the basic skills learned in training, I also took part in numerous extra courses to learn about different aspects; from customer service to more advanced testing and diagnostic skills to make me a more multi-skilled engineer.
Shift Manager
I worked both part time and full time for McDonald’s and progressed my way up from Crew Member, to Crew Trainer to shift manager. I received an honours certificate for achieving above 90% in my final shift management exam and went on to run successful shifts, in charge of a large amount of staff members, whilst maintaining the interests of the business, such as labour, food cost and profit targets, and helping my business manager and operations consultant achieve their goals and Plan to Win. As extra responsibilities in my role I also took charge of food safety, which I lifted from 85% to 100% in our annual audit, and supported the manager in charge of customer service.
