About Joseph R. Ruiz

I am primarily an anesthesiologist and provide perioperative care for offsite GI endoscopy and Interventional Radiology patients. I contribute not only by direct patient care but also on formal and ad hoc task forces to improve the clinical production and education in these areas. I have a primary interest in healthcare quality improvement. I have shepherded several groups through the MD Anderson Cancer Center Clinical Safety and Effectiveness course. I have guided physician change in practice behavior and published this work in 2010. While head of our Performance Improvement Program, I also helped developed our process with a goal of creating a “culture of safety” and feedback reports on quality metrics. I serve on the American Society of Anesthesiologists Advisory Group on Physician Health and Well Being where I have tried to focus on bringing mindfulness to physician stress and burnout.
