Dr. Reisman is a registered patent attorney, and has been a partner in Knobbe Martens’ San Diego office since 2002. His practice allows him to utilize the technical training he received while earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry, as it focuses on the Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Biotechnology industries. His litigation experience is varied, and includes numerous large-scale patent infringement actions brought under the Hatch-Waxman Act, in which he has many years of trial experience. He has served as a trial attorney, and has authored numerous appeal briefs, and conducted oral argument on appeal at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Joe often represents manufacturer of generic and follow-on products, and has been a team leader in successfully earning early market entry of generic equivalents of many well-known products, including Lipitor (atorvastatin) and Valcyte (valganciclovir). Joe regularly counsels his clients as they prepare their Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) and provides strategic advice with an eye toward successful patent litigation strategies, including settlement, always keyed to successful business outcomes. Joe also has extensive experience in Inter Partes Review proceeding before the Patent Office Board of Appeals. Joe also has over 15 years of experience obtaining and enforcing patents, trade secrets and other forms of intellectual property rights for his clients. He has extensive experience developing worldwide patent portfolios relating to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, specialty chemical, and water treatment technologies. He has been named to the list of Best Lawyers in America and to IMG Life Sciences’ list of “Life Science Stars” for several years running. Joe regularly speaks and writes on issues related to Intellectual Property law, and he has served for over a decade as an adjunct professor, teaching Patent Law at the University of San Diego School of Law.
