Over 35 years’ experience in insurance, reinsurance and related areas, holding key executive and directorship positions with leading insurance companies. From 2017 I was approved by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) as an independent non-executive director on a number of (re)insurance and affiliated (captive) companies established in Malta and licensed by the MFSA, including board oversight roles of approved functions such as internal audit, risk management, actuarial and compliance. In addition, I also provide consultancy work in risk management and (re)insurance. The main activities throughout my career included managing direct and facultative underwriting activities; portfolio restructuring; developing business, distribution channels and agency networks; acquiring, developing and managing insurance portfolios mainly general business and health; modelling, negotiating and placing treaty reinsurance protections and technical consultancy on insurance and reinsurance matters. Responsibilities also encompassed corporate governance, compliance, transformation and strategy. Exposure in a variety of markets including Malta, Gibraltar, Greece, London and the MENA region particularly GCC by having a direct presence in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar. I was actively involved in strategic expansions, feasibility studies and dealing with international organisations for venture financing and discussions with regulators, potential partners, and investors in the pursuit of establishing in overseas regions. Future Objectives:I constantly aspire to be challenged and motivated by the work I do. This directs me to look, preferably, at international or regional entities working in the insurance, reinsurance or related sectors. I seek opportunities in markets and jurisdictions which have a developed or are seeking to develop a strong financial services infrastructure.I will consider appointments as non-executive director on boards of insurance or insurance related companies that demonstrate a serious operation or those with a comprehensive and viable business plan seeking establishment in regulated markets. When it comes to consultancy, assignments (direct or sub-contracting) on a longer-term basis, I look forward to those opportunities which will exploit my diversified experience and the contacts I have built during my career. Preferably this would entail engaging in an enterprise with a strategic vision for change, innovation and growth.
