Profile bio

About Joseph Ryan Hill

I am an energy meteorologist and data scientist, with a B.S. in Meteorology and an M.S. in Environmental Science/Atmospheric Science. With 10+ years of python experience I manage expansive datasets and APIs, am proficient with predictive modeling tasks, and enjoy goal driven problem-solving environments. While a full-stack R&D Meteorologist at Trailstone Group/Englehart, I have been given the opportunity to develop numerous projects now in production that drive actionable decisions by the company quantitative analysists, power traders, and fellow operational meteorologists. My daily tasks involved managing high-quality expansive datasets on S3 gained from internal analytics and API’s/model scraping, creating robust peer-reviewed and version controlled software packages to diversify Trailstone’s internal tools and utility, and managing the operational forecasts and forecasting tools as our company launched into Japan with solar and wind assets. My programming background is strongly rooted in using python data visualization to provide increased data usability and insight. I have gained extensive use of version control with thorough use of Bitbucket/Git. My library specialties include Matplotlib, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, CartoPy, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, and FastAPI. I also have experience with SQL, IDL, Matlab, R, Java, Javascript, HTML, and CSS. What I enjoy most about data science is how it is simultaneously a science and an art where each person can add their own personal flare of creativity.Previously, I was the Atmospheric Science Lab Coordinator as well as an Adjunct Professor for Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. I was given the opportunity to manage many of our departmental datasets, build creative instrumentation sensing platforms for deployment in severe storms, tornadoes, and hurricanes, and refine my ability to coordinate teams towards project goals. One of the aspects I loved most about working at a University was teaching. Passing on information to any kind of audience through public speaking, presentations, or conferences is exceptionally fulfilling. I consider myself a very outgoing individual that loves to meet new people, work with new teams to gain different perspectives and experience, work towards short and long term goals, and enjoy the camaraderie of the modern workplace.

Listed skills include Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics, Wind Engineering, Idl Programming, and 9 others.
