I learned Autodesk Inventor during both of my two year courses at sixth form. At the beginning of my second year I was hired for an engineering role with Western Air Ducts Ltd. I made it clear during the interview process that I lacked any experience with their program of choice, AutoCAD. They accepted regardless and I quickly taught myself how to use it. Around 6 months into my employment I convinced them to transition to the more efficient and modern workflow provided by Inventor. I was allowed to lead the process, soon making the full switch to the new toolset. Once given the tools I was able to automate the generation of simple components and drawings, allowing me to better utilise my time with the more complex assemblies and projects.My current employer, Audience Systems Ltd, has me working back in AutoCAD. A switch to Solidworks is planned for the near future and I have been familiarising myself with the program to prepare myself. In the meantime, however, I am continuing to advance my skillset in AutoCAD.
