As a co-op in the Alternate Materials group my primary responsibility was simulating routine sterilization procedures for various coating methods for metal instruments. As a co-op I was able to interact with technicians and engineers working with me at Depuy-Synthes, in addition to representatives from other companies whose processes were being evaluated.

During my first rotation at Depuy-Synthes in the Commercialized Technologies Group I learned many of the rudimentary metallurgy skills I now possess. My primary responsibilities were to perform lab work in support of engineers within my group. I also performed destructive testing of porous coated metal implants to ensure continued quality and operator performance.

Our fishing charter took clients on inshore and offshore trips. Inshore trips we fished for striped bass, blue fish, seabass, and fluke. Offshore focused primarily on tuna. As a mate I was responsible for assisting the clients with fishing technique, on top of maintaining the boat and equipment.
