(More confident about the former than the latter).Prefers to work on small small-a agile development teams.Hot tip: if you want to go fast, don't worry about the process (Agile, SDLC, etc.); focus on dev team composition (is it small, independent, and empowered?), engineering practices (are you automating and keeping quality high?), and architecture (is it easy for you to change stuff?). Oh, and make sure you go to production often. Nothing more demotivating than building software no one will use in the forseeable future.

Bringing a developer's perspective to the front and tail ends of the SDLC. On the tail end: hashing out the meaning of "done"​ for product architectures after their originating projects have concluded ("Should we evolve, retire, or replace?"​ and "When should we act?"​). On the front end: prototyping, technology evaluations, and architectural planning to lessen the risk of projects becoming "death marches,"​ producing Rube-Goldberg-like architectures, or tempting us to try to disprove Brooks' Law.Some specific undertakings to date:- Re-writing a Dojo.js-based web application front-end for a PTAB system using AngularJS.- Prototyping MS Word 2013 task pane apps for use in Patent examination system.- Participating as a developer/SME on a Scrum team, working on a search system product. Working on tooling for system administrators written with AngularJS, Spring Boot, and JAX-RS 2.

- Designed, developed, and delivered REST APIs for accessing Trademark documents using a JavaEE stack: Servlets, Jersey, Spring, iBATIS/mybatis, StAX, XSLT, NekoHTML, and other open source libraries.- Served as release manager/integrator/coder on next generation Patent examination system. Hunted memory leaks inside gigantic Dojo-based web UI, wrote Solr data import process to support incremental indexing and significantly decrease full index time.- Developed Alfresco customizations, RESTEasy web services, JavaScript UI modifications, and Groovy-based administration scripts for internal America Invents Act system.- Acted as portfolio-wide tech lead on next generation Trademark examination system. Built Alfresco webscripts for content management system, helped design and build Grails-based component in the migration architecture.- Authored agency's Java Coding Standards; gives in-house Standards Awareness training courses.- Enjoys keeping up software development trends, tech, and languages; seeks opportunities to influence development culture at the USPTO.

Contractor for the Securities and Exchange Commission initially, developing Struts 1 and JSP-driven webapps running in Tomcat 4.0.4 (back when it was Jakarta Tomcat). Later worked on some shared components for applications deployed in JBoss 3.2.Later on, I migrated away from contracted work and was privileged to participate in company-specific efforts related to XBRL. Worked on a handful of XBRL-related products, including a Java-implementation of the XBRL 2.1, Dimensions 1.0, and Formula 1.0 specifications.Great company, great people.
