Twenty plus years helping companies achieve cost and profit targets by managing product cost before and after launch. Through cost modeling and design to target principles, I have helped public manufacturing companies manage the cost of their products while they are being developed by their engineering teams and supported on-going procurement programs post launch. In my cost engineering roles with Whirlpool Corporation, I identified multiple savings opportunities with purchased components through detailed cost analysis, showing buyers exact detail of a components material content, direct labor and associated manufacturing (conversion) cost for the related process steps. By using this information along with the suppliers required profit and business operating expenses; I was able to support multiple negotiations by focusing on factual material and manufacturing content of the component. As a Cost Modeling Manager for Whirlpool, I coached a global team of 8 to 12 cost engineers who supported 12 to 16 new product programs every year. This team built 6,000 to 8,000+ cost models per year to provide multiple product programs with costed BOM's based on the products current state of design. This drove improved discipline with engineering revision control prior to product release/launch. It also caused some programs to stop, or re-scope as the gap to target cost/profit was to large to resolve in the timeframe of a new products development. In my sourcing role at Nissan Forklift, I led the efforts to re-structure the supply chain for the steel rails used to build the lift section of a forklift truck. This involved changes in suppliers for key manufacturing processes, insourcing of certain manufacturing steps and validation of different (new) steel processing steps compared to what was traditionally used. There were also many internal Bill of Material and process routing changes to allow for proper material flow and cost tracking. This was the single largest cost savings program for Nissan Forklift's global operations. In both my Cost Engineering and Sourcing roles throughout my career, I have used skills such as:Value Stream MappingVA/VEContinuous ImprovementCost Accounting
