Work twice as hard to make sure they are the least impressive thing about you.” --Drew DudleyMy love for academic teaching began in high school when I was selected to tutor students in an elementary school. Seeing young children with a strong desire to gain knowledge inspired me to never stop teaching. I use the classroom setting to challenge, encourage, and enable all students to grow in intellect, creativity, leadership, and compassion. Using a variety of instructional delivery methods including lecture, group work, real-world activities, and critical thinking activities I inspire students to pursue knowledge passionately, to experience learning fully, and to invest their lives responsibly and with integrity. I also strive to encourage independent thinking and analytical reasoning to expand their problem-solving skills, thus encouraging them to not just memorize. As Sir Ken Robinson said at the February 2006 TED conference, “If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original.” (Ken Robinson: How schools kill creativity, 2006) One of the phrases I use frequently in my classroom is,” I don't make mistakes. I create teachable moments.”I love the diversity I see in the classroom. The unique perspectives each person brings to the classroom help all of us learn, including me.
